BLUS - Copenhagen Students Organization is going to host a project called School of Diversity. The project will bring together 60 young activists from 11 organizations in 8 countries. The advanced planning visit will take place in early July followed by a six day conference starting on the 19th of July.Young people from the Nordic countries, Poland and the Baltic countries will gather and discuss diversity in higher education. By working with diversity BLUS hopes to encourage the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) student community to look not only at sexual and gender diversity but take an intersectional approach and work with other minority groups to set a common goal for diversity in higher education. We believe that diversity in institutions of higher education and in the curriculum is not only necessary for inclusion. It is crucial for producing new knowledge and respect amongst students and thereby improving the quality of higher education. The conference will consist of lectures, workshops and discussions. Working methods will balance between input and output in various types of non-formal education. The aim is for participants to obtain knowledge of diversity; what factors need to be present to ensure diversity and how to work for diversity in higher education. We will work to define a school of diversity and then see if our respective schools live up to these definitions. The product of the conference is for the participants to gain background knowledge about diversity and to acquire the tools to work with diversity within their respective local communities and institutions of higher education.
