Sataedu's mobilities and evaluations in Europe 2
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The aim of the SATAMOVE_2 project is to develop the quality of the period spent abroad and the competence of the teachers and students from the perspective of European quality assurance in vocational education and training (EQAVET). The content of the project is in line with the SATAMOVE project, which commenced in 2014 and was divided into staff mobility components (16) and student mobility components (61). Its planned duration was two years. However, the 61 student mobility components of the SATAMOVE project, approved in 2014, will be implemented in their entirety during the spring of 2015. Because approximately 70 high-quality applications were received and the Management Group made no decision to limit the number of the mobility components, we decided – also on the basis of conversations conducted with CIMO – to implement the approved mobility components during the first year of the project. As regards staff mobility components, we proceed in accordance with the two-year plan, but in order to ensure the desired results, we use the SATAMOVE_2 project to obtain new student mobility components on the basis of the experience that every year approximately 50 students participate in student exchanges from Sataedu to European partner institutions. Furthermore, we want to continue with the development of parts of degrees in Construction and in Logistics using new staff mobility components. In addition the knowledge and competence of our international contact persons and student counselors, who ensure Sataedu’s high quality implementation of international mobilities, is intended to further deepen, with the cooperation of those partners, which receive the most part of Sataedu’s students. This will be done by the job shadowing period in 5 countries. In the autumn of 2012, Sataedu started a self-financed student mobility programme that covers all fields of study. By the autumn of 2015 (when all mobility components of the E+ SATAMOVE project have been implemented), approximately 140 students will have participated in the mobility components. At Sataedu, the mobility process is based on the student mobility instructions approved in the spring of 2013, focussing on high-quality counselling and support throughout the mobility period. The aim is to enable the mobility of 50–60 students every year, corresponding to approximately 10 per cent of new students annually commencing their studies at Sataedu. On the basis of the mobility feedback, the students have enhanced their language skills and their motivation to study; consequently, their learning outcomes have improved. Moreover, self-financed mobility has significantly increased the willingness for high-quality mobility among both students and staff, and when the SATAMOVE project started in 2014, the number of high-quality applications exceeded the quota reserved for two years. The SATAMOVE_2 project continues this development by providing Sataedu's students with possibilities of completing part of their degree at partner institutions / companies. The aim is to promote the students’ graduation and to enhance the graduates' employability in Finland and Europe. This is done by implementing a high-quality course of at least 5 weeks with partners who are familiar with the content and evaluation methods of our courses through our Learning Agreement (LA). Participating students are at least 18 years of age, motivated in their respective fields of study and aware of their personal goals. During these two years, the following fields of study (and the following numbers of students) will participate in the project: Social Services and Health Care (12), Catering (14), Metal Work (8), Hair and Beauty Care (10), Vehicle (6), Logistics (4), Electrical Engineering (14), Construction (4), Business Administration (8), AV (18) and Photography (12). The period of 5–10 weeks consists of the introductory period in the host organisation, tutoring activities covering the entire period, on-the-job learning, continuous self-evaluation through blogging, interim and final evaluation by the contact person of the host institution and by the representative of the workplace and cultural excursions (1 or 2) to the neighbouring areas arranged by the partner institution. The principles of the ECVET are applied in the project. Sataedu has now prepared field-specific elective degree parts / modules for seven fields of study; these can be completed during the period spent abroad. Their learning outcomes have been prepared in cooperation with the partner institutions. Cooperation is based on the Memorandum of Understanding, prepared with four school organisations and one school network and on the Letter of Intent prepared with other educational organisations. The course content and evaluation are described in full detail in the Learning Agreement (LA). The mobility period will be evaluated using the criteria attached to the LA, and the learning outcomes will be transferred using the Europass.
