SANTE
Start date: May 10, 2016, End date: Nov 9, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project intersects the issues of food/nutrition and participation in sport aiming to assist the Commission in achieving its objectives to reduce phyiscal inactivity amongst young people (Erasmus+ programme guide p.11) and improve the nutritional knowledge of participants which is an oft overlooked but key competence for young people. It aims to do so via a cultural exchange between Italy and the United Kingdom using the tools available to the two main partners to combine these themes into a week of peer-to-peer and non-formal/informal learning workshops. Therefore this project is also concerned with raising the profile of these teaching methods and raising cultural awareness amongst its participants, both of which are among the more traditional objectives of the Erasmus+ programme. We expect participants to consider their lifestyle more closely and to adopt and apply some of the knowledge they gain throughout the exchange. We want participants to think about what food they eat, where it comes from and how they prepare it. We expect participants to participate in physical activity more regularly and to consider trying to create new sporting opportunities in their own local contexts. Principally we want participants to adopt a healthier lifestyle following the project. Outside of the subject-related impact we want participants to become more confident and empowered. By putting them in positions of authority and allowing them to control their own learning, we want them to become more inde-pendent and to take initiative in their lives when they return home. Through the varied tasks they will complete, we expect participants to return with improved soft skills in leadership, communication, critical reflection and time management/organization.The desired influence at regional level is to influence policy and funding in grassroots sport and nutritional education. This is dependent on the effective dissemination of materials following the project. With each project partner either working at a regional level or having influence there, it makes it possible for us to have an influence at a regional level in the partner countries. Sport is quite well funded in the UK for example, however there is certainly potential in Albania for there to be greater investment in sport. Likewise all programme countries have high levels of youth obesity, this project and its results can demonstrate the importance of nutritional education and how allowing young people to take control of their own nutrition and physical activity can have a positive effect on their lifestyle.
