This project proposal covers an intensive 14-days professional visit to Seefahrtschule in Cuxhaven, Germany by the branch teachers in maritime education working at Ziya Kalkavan Anatolian Technical School of Maritime and local partner schools as well as the practical trainings on onboard safety at ITU Maritime Faculty. Our teachers were guided by German and Turkish teachers in terms of translation and cultural awareness and understanding. Local partners of the Project are ?stanbul Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha Anatolian Vocational School of Maritime from Marmara Region, Rize Hasan Kemal Yard?mc? Anatolian Vocational School of Maritime from Black Sea Region, Antalya Fettah Tamince Anatolian Vocational School of Maritime from Mediterranean Region, ?zmir Nevvar Salih ??gören Anatolian Vocational School of Maritime from Aegean Region, and Van Anatolian Vocational School of Maritime from East Anatolian Region. In an overview to Germany, the pioneering one among the countries developing in maritime business, it is evident that trainings on onboard safety are meticulously conducted in a comprehensive manner. The Seefahrtschule located in Cuxhaven has an excellent reputation in the field of vocational maritime education. Besides, it is in possession of practical training equipment and simulators in order to execute requirements of the STCW Manilla Amendments. STCW stands for ?Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers? and describes the minimum mandatory training required to set standards for seafarers on merchant ships worldwide. The regulations have been drawn up by the IMO affiliated to the UN. With the contribution of Erasmus vocational training programme, the 22 teachers of onboard safety course from five different regions of our country have gathered in Germany, one of the leading countries in the global maritime business, and completed the training on onboard safety implementations and integration at SOLAS standards during the two weeks from 3.11.2014 to 17.11.2014. In the aftermath, the same teachers attended the practical onboard safety training at ITU Maritime Faculty between 1.9.2015 and 12.9.2015 and received their certificates with international validity. These implementation and integration trainings cover the STCW basic training determined by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The positive influence of an intensive and international professional visit and an experience of and approach to a different culture on the teachers? personal development are well organised by the Ziya Kalkavan Anatolian Technical School of Maritime and its local partners. This professional visit is observed to have long lasting positive results in terms of an improving professional network, a renewed didactical approach, realisation of adaptations to the STCW regulations, cultural awareness and understanding of different cultures, a sense of equality and sustainability, and above all, educational performance and knowledge exchange. The project was realised in participation of an administrator and five teachers from Ziya Kalkavan Anatolian Technical School of Maritime, an administrator and five teachers from ?stanbul Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha Anatolian Vocational School of Maritime, three teachers from Rize Hasan Kemal Yard?mc?
