S1-L15-MUNDUS ACP
Start date: Jul 15, 2010,

Our consortium is composed by 20 HEIs with campuses in 31 countries: 7 European (BE, DE, ES, FR,IT, PT, SE), 8 African (Angola, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Congo, Kenya, Senegal, Madagascar,Mozambique), 4 Caribbean (Barbados, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago) and 12Pacific (Cook Islands, East Timor, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands,Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu). As part of the strategy to disseminate the project over a vast geographicalarea, we have also included as associates 4 important HEIs' associations (SG, IAU, AULP, AUF) and 2HEIs (Mekelle University, Ethiopia, and Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, Mozambique). Many ACPcountries are still investing in the expansion of their HE systems to face the high demandingchallenges of socio-economic development. Therefore the training of teaching staff to participate inthis changing process is an important commitment of this project. In the mobilities distribution, theconsortium will give priority to mobility flows for full master. This will enable applicants from all TGs todevelop their research and education skills. The consortium will also support PhD mobility andteaching and training activities for TG1, so that partner HEIs will be able to develop their capacitybuilding by providing opportunities for education, research, teaching and cooperation to their staff. Toattain these objectives, the project will promote a total of 240 students and staff mobility flows: (i)from ACP to EU: 174 master for 20 months, 18 sandwich PhD for 10 months and 24 staff for 1 month;(ii) from EU to ACP: 24 staff for 1 month. These flows were determined in accordance with ACPpriorities, and the selection of institutions in EU was based on their quality and on the thematic areason offer so as to correspond to the thematic needs of the ACP countries. The HEIs in ACP countrieswere selected regarding their profile and development stage and the country socioeconomicdevelopment. In our partner selection, it was also a concern to ensure a balanced distribution amongthe 6 regions foreseen for this lot. Therefore, we have chosen 2 HEIs in each one of the 6 ACPregions. However, being conscious of the high number of eligible ACP countries, beyond the 31already covered within the partnership, the MUNDUS ACP project also offers to students from manyother countries, by including a significant number (78) of mobility flows for Target Groups 2 and 3,the possibility of participation in this excellent mobility opportunity.
