S1-L14 Europe & South Africa Partnership for Human Development II
Start date: Jul 15, 2011,

The EUROSA II partnership aims to contribute to redressing past inequities and imbalances and to improve the participation rate of historically disadvantaged individuals in higher education. Capacity building and human development, with specific attention to South African’s designated groups, through master, PhD and staff mobility from South Africa to Europe are at the core of the project. The principles of equity and non-discrimination are the keystones of the EUROSA vision: among the partner universities and the key staff involved in the implementation of the project, and in terms of the participation of scholarship grantees in the mobility activities. Brief description: The Europe & South Africa Partnership for Human Development II (EUROSA II) is a structured and institutionally embedded mobility project involving 9 European, 8 South African and 4 associated partners, aiming to promote mobility activities for South African’s designated groups at master, PhD and staff level. The diverse, but complementary EUROSA II partnership is dedicated to implement a well functioning mobility scheme taking into account the capacity and expertise of the European partners and the specific needs of the South African partners. The mobility scheme focuses on master, PhD and staff exchange and gives special attention to historically disadvantaged and deprived individuals. A total of 70 students and staff will spend a study or research period in Europe: 38 master students will be educated and will be introduced to new teaching and learning methods; 21 PhD students will have access to high-level PhD programmes and internationally renowned research units; 11 members of staff (both academic and administrative) will be trained, conduct research, teach or prepare joint publications at one of the European partner universities. The EUROSA II consortium members are committed to cooperate, to exchange good practices, share knowledge and expertise at various levels and in various fields. The management of the project and the internal communication structures are based on the creation of several management bodies. A clear definition of roles and responsibilities (dedicated management of the coordinating institution and active role of partner universities) and maximum transparency of structures and procedures (promotion, application, selection, admission) ensure a smooth running project and mobility scheme.
