Based on prognoses by 2050, people over 60 years old in Europe will double to 40% of the total population. The aging of the European population will inevitably accelerate the demand for effective rehabilitation therapies to ameliorate the motor deficits caused by age-associated neurological or orthopaedic syndromes. Robots for rehabilitation offer a significant advantages in addressing this need. They can extend substantially the capacities of therapists who work with patients suffering from motor impairments. Robotic rehabilitation offers the possibility to do training in much broader spectrum of disease or injury conditions thanks to advances of robotics, electronics and neurophysiology. The great advantage of robotic rehabilitation is the possibility of treat harder forms of physical disabilities and also to ease work of a rehabilitation worker. In Slovak institutions providing lifelong learning of healthcare workers there is no possibility of vocational education in robotics rehabilitation. Also level of theoretical knowledge in this field is low, acquired in Slovak, as well in English language.The aim of the RoboReha project is to implement training activities for rehabilitation physicians, physical therapists and other health professionals in the field of robotic rehabilitation and ensure the implementation of the most modern techniques in neurological rehabilitation with the emphasis on the introduction of robotic movement therapy in the rehabilitation of neurological and orthopedic patients.
