"""Science: The Great Escape"" is an event designed to create the public perception of science as something that is not only confined to the laboratory. We intend to stage the event as a getaway of research from its own environment and to bring it centre-stage, in public places in four major Romanian cities: Bucharest, Craiova, Iaşi and Timişoara (combined population 3,5 million). The concept will be fully integrated in the organization of the event, allowing us to put together a really creative awareness campaign, to use original outdoor advertising, to use it as a pretext to gain a better understanding of science (in order to identify something, you must know what is science and what is not), to use the same idea to design the stage of the science shows and, last, but not least, to portray scientists as people trying to better understand not something abstract, in the laboratory, but the world around us itself. The main attraction will be the various open air activities organized by researchers themselves in public squares and shopping malls. In addition to that, the participants will also be able to take guided laboratory tours, to visit science photography exhibitions and to gain a better understanding of the most important EU funded scientific project to be set up in Romania: ELI - Nuclear Physics. The target audience for all locations include pupils, students, teachers, parents and grand parents, no matter theirs background or science skills, with special attention devoted to gender equality. We will encourage and attract pupils and persons from rural regions, kids with special educational needs, kids from the gifted education programme and theirs trainers. By means of a well developed media plan, including social media tools, during the awareness campaign we expect that more that 300000 people will know precise data about our project: locations, hours, proposed activities. In all proposed locations we expect a total number of participants higher than 10.000."
