The “Religious pluralism and European integration” module addresses the issue of pluralism and religions in multicultural European societies. While religious matters remain at the margins of EU competence, questions of religious pluralism and religious discrimination are increasingly reaching European courts and policy makers. Both are called to foster and build upon an inclusive European citizenry, respecting and promoting the diversity of the peoples of Europe. The project includes research and teaching activities, both characterized by a multidisciplinary approach, organized in two stages:In the preparatory research activity key issues will be explored from a EU and ECHR perspective, including:1. the relationship between law and religion; 2. religious freedom and the neutrality of the State; 3. European countries’ models of relationship between State and Churches; 4. antidiscrimination law and religious matters; 5. identities, religions and public space; 6. controversial cases involving clothing and religious symbols, places of worship, religious education, treatment of religious groups, objection of conscience.Dissemination of the research’s activity will be made possible with annual round tables open to students and young researchers and calls for papers may be included. The proceedings will be published on websites focused and specialized in religious freedom (olir) and democracy and religions (fidr). The teaching activity will consists of 42 hours, taught by law, philosophy, theology, sociology, criminology and political science professors from Italian and foreign universities. Non-academic staff (representatives of religious groups or institutions for inter-religious dialogue) will also be involved. The students’ learning process will be supported by an e-learning platform on which students and instructors can interact throughout the course. Moreover, the teaching materials and recording of the lectures will also be uploaded and readily available.
