Economic crises and high levels of unemployment and criminality among young people; Political dominance around Europe of Right and growing of extreme rights groups influence; Difficulties in integration of different (ethnic, religious) minorities groups associated with discrimination, marginalization, xenophobia, violence, etc; High levels of violence towards women or domestic violence; Corruption (especially in East and South East Europe). High level of social apathy of young people- express as a general feeling of indifference towards some of the problems mention before; The constant need of civil society from Europe to acquire new methods in dealing with these social topics- Acquiring alternative and effective instruments for dealing with these issues is necessary and represents a priority for youth workers and this projects answer to such needs.
The main goal of this project is to increase level of empowerment and participation of young people as key elements for a social sustainable society in Europe.
The target audience are youth workers and the training course is meant to develop their competencies in theatre of the oppressed (specifically in Forum and Image Theatre), becoming multipliers in their communities.
The training will take place in Slovenia, in February 2015 and will target 24 participants from 11 European Program Countries (Slovenia, Romania, Estonia, Italy, Portugal, Czech Republic, Spain, Germany, Bulgaria, Turkey and Lithuania).
More specific Objectives of the project are:
• To increase knowledge in Theatre of The Oppressed (with focus on Forum and Image Theatre) principal concepts and theory of practitioners in the field;
• To develop and improve skills in non-formal education in general, and in particular in Forum and Image Theatre methods for youth workers;
• To develop facilitation and group management skills among youth workers;
• To develop pro-active and specific attitudes among the partners NGO members and also among the beneficiaries of the partners related to Theatre of the Oppressed and Theatre for Change philosophy;
• To deepen the awareness of similarities and differences in social problems and kinds of oppression in different European countries;
• To increase the sense of common responsibility for the future of their local communities as well as the whole European community;
• To empower the participants to act as Forum and Image Theatre multipliers in their own organization and regions;
• To develop (with participants as coordinators) national/regional/local projects that uses Forum Theatre and Image Theatre as main working method with young people
