Reforming Interpreting and Translation Studies in Azerbaijan

The wider objective of the project is to bring I&T studies in AZ into conformity with Bologna requirements, to improve its quality to international standards, and to facilitate convergence of relevant study programs in AZ with EHEA. The project's specific objectives will be: 1) to modernize interpreting and translation (I&T) bachelor and master study programs; 2) to build capacity and create resources and infrastructure for new study programs; and 3) to disseminate good practice and develop life-ling education (LLE) programs for future sustainability. The principal outcomes of the project will be the improved capacity in Azerbaijan in the sphere of I&T (through teacher-training and training of trainers), established library resources (books and software) for the I&T study program, established infrastructure to support the program (language centers and conference interpreting laboratory), design of life long learning component for practicing interpreters and translators as well as language teachers, promotion of ECTS by bringing the standards of the study programs into conformity with Bologna requirements, promotion of local collaboration among Azerbaijan's Universities towards Bologna; dissemination of the results to a larger community; enduring sustainability, implementation of quality control procedures throughout the entire lifetime of the projects; and management of the project. The project has an extensive focus on capacity building and program development. The program success will be ensured also by adequate infrastructure established during the lifetime of the project. The results will be disseminated to a larger public through LLL component. the quality plan will lead to the preparation of the study programs for external accreditation. The experience gained will also be disseminated through conferences, workshops for the public authorities and other stakeholders and students. The management of the project will be effected through efficient collaboration.
