The RecreSearchers proposal consist of three events on the 26th September 2008, which will gather more than 5000 people, organised by three public Universities in Spain: Barcelona (Catalonia), Girona (Catalonia) and Murcia (Murcia community). The main objective of the project is to enhance the recognition of researchers and their role in society, focusing in one of the their mission: as a communicator of their research. For this purpose the Recreational facet of researcher will be use to bring them closer to the large public, present researchers as “common people” to which the public can identify with and convince young people to embark to scientific careers. The events will be implemented through 4 different activities, located in strategic and attractive places, showing the Divulgative aspect of researchers. - Blogging with researchers: A group of researchers will prepare a blog where they will suggest some recreational experiments. These experiments will be performed and discussed with the public during Researchers’ Night. - Coffee break with researchers: The public will be able to have coffee with researchers taking part of the event in order to discover they are “common people”. - Get-together: A researcher’s fair will be shown during the whole event, where the proposed experiments will be shown in vivo. - Who’s who: The public will be asked to identify different researchers when they are working and when they out of work, practising some hobby. A picture competition will be hold previously to the Researchers’ Night event: Researcher Portrait. The picture exhibition of this competition will be set-up in every location. The analysis of the pictures as well as a survey through the website will be used to tackle the existing stereotypes about researchers and have a reliable assessment of the project activities.
