This is a project launched by the Association EQUA, an entity working since 1997 in the social and professional mediation of people with intellectual disability in the Bay of Cadiz. Through this project and during the 9 months of the Voluntary Service, the team of mediators at EQUA will work with the young people with intellectual disabilities about their free time and leisure, with the young community in general and youth at risk of social exclusion and other associations from the province in European Mobility, with the participation of two volunteers from Italy. The objectives which we have laid out which have been agreed upon by the Free Time and Leisure Group at EQUA, the mediators, the sending organisation XENA, and the volunteers that we will host here in Cadiz, are the social and personal development of the young people from EQUA and from the territory, and the competences of the volunteers in the accompaniment and empowerment of the people with intellectual disabilities, facilitating intercultural dialogue through free time and leisure and creative activities, awareness of European Citizenship and promotion of the Erasmus Plus Programme amongst young people and other associations from Cadiz. We will advise other associations in writing, presenting and carrying out their own European Projects, creating networks and providing them with the necessary information and support when presenting and carrying out projects, and with young people from Cadiz so that they are informed, prepared and take advantage of the European opportunities that exist through Erasmus Plus. With creative and participative proposals we will continue to go deeper in our work in inclusion through free time and leisure and in the Erasmus Plus Programme. With these we aim to encourage reflection amongst the young people with intellectual disabilities and young people in general about their identities, abilities and capacities in self-organisation and self-management of free time activities, relational and communicative skills, underlining intercultural dialogue. We know that artistic expression is a powerful tool in working on these items, being able to combine body language and movement, crafts, music, theatre, photography, radio, audiovisuals, interculturality, etc. We understand that through this project we will contribute to creating and consolidating a space where young people with and without disability from different cultures, will be able to combine criterias, share values and build their own concepts of participation and European Citizenship. We will do all of this through community action and promoting activity in the community of the city of Cadiz. Workshops which will be carried out in an evolving process and with the aim of having an impact on the Cadiz community, giving an active and participatory role to the collective of young people with intellectual disability in the area of free time and leisure.
