Russia intensifies collaboration in health sciences with the European Union. However, so far there does not exist any organized teaching activity for Russian health professionals on public health and health care in the EU.The objective of the proposed project is to promote studies and knowledge of the EU experience and best practices in public health and health care within the Russian system of higher medical education, among young Russian health professionals. We propose implementing training courses on this topic by a group of prominent Russian academics with a strong international background at the Higher School of Health Administration, which is a part of the leading institution of higher medical education in Russia – I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University under the Ministry of Health of Russia.Project outputs will include 3 training courses, each course for 100 students, within 3 consecutive years (2015-2017). We will provide the course to those enrolled in existing post-graduate programmes. The curriculum of 44 hours of lectures, seminars and group work will include EU Health Strategy and Programme, Health Care Systems, Health Technology Assessment, Health Promotion, Information and Education.Outcomes will represent increased, systematic knowledge of public health and health care, relevant best practices in the EU, enhancing civic skills among Russian health professionals.Impact of the project will include increasing visibility of the study of public health and health care in the EU, dissemination of the EU best practices in Russia at the national and regional levels, and within health theory, practice and research, facilitating contacts between Russian and the EU health institutions and professionals. The course will add academic value to the current Russian curricula, will promote emerging role of Russia as a sponsor of global health policy and diplomacy, and will complement joint activities of Russia and the WHO Regional Office for Europe.
