Context / Background of project: Referring to the Treaty of Lisbon on 1 December 2009 on the conservation and protection of human health and the prudent and rational use of natural resources the Erasmus+ Project entitled "Protecting the environment is an opportunity! Not a burden we must bear.” brings together five European schools from Germany, Finland, Lithuania, Spain and Turkey. The project implements the objectives formulated in the Agenda 2020 - Youth on the Move: improving educational systems and promote international attractiveness of education. In a world of changes in regional labor markets, the gain especially by foreign experts as well as the opening of the European Union and the associated European labor market, we want to promote the language and intercultural skills of the project members. Taking an active part in shaping Europe’s new face our aim through this school project is to make an important contribution to the preparation of our students in these pan-European challenges. Project objectives: The main objective of the project is the promotion of basic and cross-curricular competencies combined with higher learning motivation and the improvement the learning outcomes of the students. Thus the rate of school dropouts can be reduced. The experience of real-life contacts with their peers from other European countries increases the willingness for mobility of our students. Our students become aware of the responsibility they bear for the conservation of natural environmental resources, using the specific example of water. They acquire specific knowledge on specific environmental problems. By using the English language as the lingua franca the participants improve their foreign language skills. Number and profile of participants: The project participants are from five European countries: Germany, Finland, Lithuania, Spain and Turkey. Overall, the project will include 202 students and teachers’ mobilities. This Erasmus+ project involves schools that previously couldn’t gain any or only little experience in Comenius/Erasmus School Partnership projects yet (Turkey and Finland) but there are also very experienced institutions like Spain and Lithuania. But the "newcomers" have excellent expert knowledge from other projects that will benefit our collaboration a lot in future. The German school is experienced in Comenius projects and their management. Methodology to be used in carrying out the project: Following a five-step-programme, the students identify and analyze one of five local environmental problems that also occur in the other countries in workshops at each Transnational Meeting. In a second step the participants of the project spread information they have learned during the meetings at their schools by using modern information technologies. They carry out practical actions in their home countries. In the Language Labs (language lessons) during each Project Meeting the linguistic and intercultural skills of the students will be trained. Procedure of project implementation: Three Transnational Project Meetings are held aiming at the preparation of the Transnational Teaching- and Learning Activities. During the five planned Transnational Teaching- and Learning Activities, participants expand their knowledge on environmental priorities. An evaluation of the project both during and after the completion guarantees the review of the aimed goals. Description of the results and impact envisaged and the potential longer term benefits: An European Phrase Book will be prepared before every visit for using it during the meetings. The languages are the native language and English. At the end of the project a pan-European phrasebook is created with the five participating languages and English. It documents on the one hand the increase of linguistic knowledge on the other hand it can also be used in future projects During the project, an interactive project - website will be established. It will be used for documentation and dissemination of the project as well as for the exchange of documents, videos and results. The website will be available after the completion of the project for the partners and other people interested Erasmus+. A blog for teachers with ideas for preparing lessons and for the exchange of educational experiences will emerge. Beyond this cooperation the teachers of the schools involved in the project will have the opportunity to maintain this contact and use it in their further teaching practice. The "River Magazine" is an informative newspaper in print form that is created after each TLL by the host country. Contents are: environmental issues explored during the meetings, information and images from the TLLs, puzzles, cartoons, photo stories , created products , hospitality ...
