PROJECT
FINISHED
The project »Free time of children and youth« lasted from March 2015 till end of October 2015 in cooperation with a volunteer from Georgia - Guranda Dzamelashvili. Our object in the project as a host organisation was to »revive« the local scene in the field of youth programmes and to draw attention on voluntary work in public. Working with children and youth in their spare time is crucial for their growth and develpoment of healthy, active lifestyle, with quality spare time patterns. Besides, European voluntary service helps to develop voluntary work as a value and strengthens the values of solidarity, tolerance, intercultural learning and cooperation at the local and international level. The meeting point of different cultures is in our opinion a great step towards the exchange of experience of good practices between the youth and these can be of great help in the field of development of new practices in working with young. Last but not least, meeting of two cultures is a precious experience of the value of multiculturalism in the sense of mutual benefit.
Our primary goals set for the EVS project ''Free time of children and youth'' were: gathering new experience on working with youngsters, exchange of good practices in the same field, informal learning, intercultural dialog and learning, creation and implementation of new projects and ideas - as a result of selfinitiative of the volunteer, enrichment of local community, inclusion of young people with less opportunities, creation of new local and international partnerships etc. and above all providing additional spare time activities for children and youth, eith a different intercultural dimension.
The volunteer was involved in implementing and executing activities for children and youth, she carried out presentations, workshops about Georgia, Georgian culture and language, she prepared presentations about voluntary work and her EVS exchange for youngsters in highschools and Youth project learning group, she attended summer camps, participated in all sports and creative activities, cooperated with other volunteers in carrying out workshops, roller-skating class. She also arranged the Facebook page, prepared leaflets, posters, articles and other promotion material for her activities, arranged the bulleting board, occasionally helped at other work in the office. Goals as reviving youth programmes, drawing attention on voluntary work, promoting intercultural learning and intercultural experience were achieved to an extent, the volunteer promoted the values of solidarity, tolerance and active lifestyle, spare time activities for children and youth were enrichened, we missed more selfinitiative from our EVS volunteer to develop and implement her own ideas and projects. Teaching children Georgian alphabeth and presenting Georgian cuisine was were very interesting for primary school children and we received positive feedback after every workshop. Unfortunately, the volunteer decided to end her voluntary service before planned, so she didn't carry out the language course planned for autumn months.
