PROJECT
FINISHED
The project takes place over the period of a school year, in a vocational school of higher education located in Rodez, county town of the department called Aveyron, in the great region Languedoc-Roussillon/Midi-Pyrénées. This High School has an average of 250 students from 18 to 22 years old and prepares for diplomas called BTS/"Brevet de Technicien Supérieur", DTS (Diplôme de Technicien Supérieur) and vocational degrees (Licence) in partnership with Champollion University in the fields of technical, tertiary and paramedical studies. In the spirit of the continuum from Bac-3/Bac+3, the High School implements all possible measures in order to provide students coming from various social backgrounds as well as educational backgrounds (vocational, general and technical education), with a diverse range of learning tools so as to facilitate equal opportunities for all of them. The project aims to promote cultural openness, intercultural dialogue and to make the students aware of mobility and European citizenship. In order to diversify this approach, the High School appeals to volunteers from different nationalities and backgrounds ; the candidacies being considered according to the criteria of relational ease, autonomy, reliability and motivation. Through the volunteer’s testimony, the exchanges and the carried out activities, the aim is to give the students the opportunity to become aware of a mobility experience in concrete terms, to acquire knowledge and abilities, in a non-formal way, in the fields of personal commitment, intercultural dialogue and cultural openness. We hope this project will help the students as well as the volunteer acquire a better adaptability, strengthen the eagerness to get involved and to experience mobility, and will go with them in their personal development as well as for a better professional integration. In association with the educational team and in connection with the High School educational project, the volunteer is requested for the cultural activities inside the School as well as for the School opening towards the economic, community life and institutional base at both local and regional level, and for international thinking. He can be required to intervene during classes or in addition to classes. He is encouraged to share his views with the students about his personal commitment and mobility experience, to communicate about his country and own culture, to exchange on topics linked to learnings. This way, he will bring a fresh look and other helpful tools for understanding lessons, thus opening the door to new ways of learning. He intervenes as a source of proposals and support for the students in order to encourage them to join the High School Students Association, take part in the cultural or arts workshops conducted by the volunteer, get involved in mobility experiences (journeys, work experiences or studies abroad). Being present at the school library, he will easily be able to bring his personal contribution to the information resources available to the students about Europe and the various possibilities for students eager to experience mobility (Youthpass, EVS, …). This will enable the volunteer to widen and put into practice the students’knowledge as well as his own. He is also asked to communicate about the European voluntary service, his own project and the activities linked to the High School blog, Facebook page and website, the local social radio located in Rodez (RTR), the activities in collaboration with institutions, firms, cultural organizations or associations, either partners in the project or not.Weekly meetings with the tutor, regular meetings with the educational team or the management team will be part of the support to the volunteer in this project. Thanks to the exchanges and approaches that are offered we wish to help the volunteer the best we can concerning the monitoring of his project, the fulfillment of his Youthpass as well as his personal development and a better integration into working life ; as, indeed, the personal project of the volunteer and the one of the organization appear to be closely linked. The participation of the volunteer in the various seminars which are organized in connection with the Erasmus+ Program also come within the scope of this goal.We hope that through its spreading this project will make other students able to appropriate the tools for mobility made available to them, will promote exchanges and intercultural dialogue. The ten year presence of volunteers in the High School has highly contributed towards an evolution of mentalities. One of its effects is the work on the drawing up of an Erasmus charter by the School.
