Start date: Jun 18, 2014,
End date: Nov 18, 2015
PROJECT
FINISHED
As Citizens of Europe e.V. exists thanks to voluntary commitment of its members, and some of them come directly from an EVS
experience, we would like to offer to other youngsters the opportunity to experience on a daily basis what active European
citizenship actually implies and at the same time to facilitate a personal growth process, by working at an NGO which deals
since ever with these topics in diverse fields of actions.
Two volunteers (one female and one male volunteer) from Portugal and United Kingdom will be working for 12 months at the office of Citizens of Europe e.V. in Berlin, focusing in particular on the theme of active citizenship. The volunteers will have the possibility to build up and implement their own projects. They will encourage the participation of young Europeans to discuss citizenship and key daily issues topics through the Citizens of Europe platform and through web 2.0 social media (ie: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn). The project has a genuine pan-European scale, not only linking organisations from Portugal, United Kingdom and Germany, but looking at the core activities and the aim of Citizens of Europe – to bring Europeans closer to Europeans.
As we understand the importance of communication among different cultures, the volunteers will receive at the arrival a proper course to improve linguistic skills, essential also for the integration process into civil society, which will be deepened throughout the year. Besides, the volunteers will be supporting the regular work at the office together with the responsible and with an intern, from keeping contacts to a precious help with the administrative matters. Volunteers contribution will be highly encouraged also in supporting other members projects and future activities long-term perspective.
The volunteers will greatly improve their interpersonal and social competencies, such as adaptability and facing new challenges,
team-working with colleagues and sharing responsibilities. They should be able to strengthen their communication skills both in English and in German. The volunteers will encourage a closer cooperation within existing networks in Germany and Portugal/UK on a grass root level, and establish new contacts which could grow through the years. The maintenance of this trans-European connection will be a mutual interest, which apart from working experiences will allow also transmission, comparison and understanding of values between different cultures.
