Project of st. Vincent in Bratislava
Start date: Aug 1, 2015, End date: Jul 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project will take place in the low threshold Nightshelter of St. Vincent de Paul operated by the applicant in Bratislava, Slovakia. The nightshelter was opened in December 2006 and since then we have supported almost 3,200 homeless. The nightshelter is opened for homeless people sleeping rough and thanks to the low threshold approach, assistance is also available for socially excluded groups of homeless people who do not fulfil the conditions for admission to other facilities, i.e. for people without documents, health insurance, financial resources as well as for people under alcohol and drug influence, with antisocial behaviour and other behavioural issues. In the nightshelter we provide in particular the following services: accommodation for night, conditions for basic hygiene, food, necessary clothes and shoes and social counselling. This project is a long-term project (10 months). It is designed for one volunteer who will come from France. The main themes of the project are homeless people and minorities. The annual priority is fight against poverty and marginalisation. The objectives of the project include gaining knowledge of the situation of homelessness in Bratislava, acquiring experience with marginalised groups, making own opinions according to the new experience, enriching skills to cooperate with others and communication skills. We will apply in particular the following methods: individual meetings with mentors, language meetings, instructions on safe and healthy working environment.
