Professional training for a career in the European Healthcare System

The Erasmus+ project “Professional Training For a Career in the European Healthcare System”,addresses 2nd and 3rd year SPSCD students in the qualification of medical general assistant level 3+(tertiary non-academic)for the school years 2016-2017 and 2017-2018,B1 English speakers.The proposed programme consists in the full implementation of 8 clinical practice for 64 students,in two flows,between 2016 and 2017.The first flow-2016/2017-32 students(16 2nd year students and 16 3rd year students),in Seniorenresidenz Linenhof-GmbH(Hannover,Germany)from 02 to 24.03.2016 and from 07 to 29.03.2017,in clinical practice for the modules M32Orthopaedics,traumatology and specific nursing-96h(6h/day,16days,according to the national Curriculum and M52Gerontology,geriatrics and specific nursing-84h,supplemented by 12h of clinical practice for M44Nursing research-total 96h(6h/day,16days).The second flow-2016/2017-32 students (16 2nd year students and 16 3rd year students),in Diaplasis Rehabilitation Center(Kalamata,Greece)from 05 to 27.04.2016 and from 04 to 26.04.2017,in clinical practice for the modules M32Orthopaedics, traumatology and specific nursing-96h(6h/day,16 days) and M48 Neurology and neurological nursing-84h,supplemented by 12h of clinical practice for M44Nursing research-total 96h(6h/day,16days).The mobility period is 23 days(16days of professional training/clinical practice,1 assessment day,6 week-end days) 2 days assigned to the trip to the host country and back to the country of origin.In addition to clinical practice/internship hours,the programme contains theoretical training hours for the module M52,which is studied in the second semester of the school year,pedagogical training-6h,English language training on the Erasmus+ online platform,Greek language training,A1 beginner level-30h in the country of origin,German language training,A1 beginner level-30h,in the country of origin and 15h in the host country,cultural training-4h,cultural activities in the host country.The clinical practice will focus on the goals, skills and abilities provided in the national Curriculum. The implementation of clinical practice in the European Union countries is motivated by the NEED of training nurses to European standards allowing them to adapt to the requirements of the international labour market, as well as increasing the insertion of graduates on the labour market.In Romania,nursing graduates are faced with great difficulties upon hiring: they are hired only after long periods of volunteering in medical facilities (varying from 6 months to 1 year).Moreover,in Romania,clinical practice are marked by several downsides:the large number of students (1,232 students),internship partners lacking some of the required wards (none of the partner hospitals has a Gerontology ward),the low number of medical professionals trained for the mentoring activity,the number of clinical practice hours provided by the national Curriculum for the 2nd and 3rd year of study are completed with a great deal of difficulty(the curriculum requires 24-25 weeks with 8h/day/each year of study and 1-2 on-call days for each module),the limited access to medical rooms and offices (1-2 students under the supervision of a single nurse)the law regarding the patient’s rights (the right to confidentiality and the patient’s agreement allowing the students’ access to medical tests and procedures) PROJECT GOALS FOR STUDENTS:1)Developing technical skills in keeping with the European standards for 2nd and 3rd year students by means of a 23-day clinical practice in private medical facilities, in Diaplasis,Greece and Seniorenresidenz Lindenhof, Germany;2)Practising professional communication skills in a foreign language;3)Increasing the interest in ongoing professional training;4.Overcoming prejudice and stereotypes regarding eldery. PROJECT GOALS FOR SCHOOL:1)Increasing the number of graduates trained to European standards.2)Developing the connections between professional training and the European labour market.4)Developing the capacity to organize transnational clinical internships.5)Promoting the school image on a national and international level. BENEFITS FOR THE STUDENTS:1.Developing technical skills: performing nursing techniques,using performant materials and devices;2.Developing language skills: fluent English and specialised technical language;3.Psychological,social and professional development:adapting to various living and working conditions, responsibility, increasing self-esteem;4.Recognition of skills:the Europass mobility document,training individuals as resources for the international labour market.
