Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Project “Strengthening the Competence of the Ability to Learn in Workplace for VET Graduates“ (VETGRAD: WORK & LEARN) is The project aims at empowering graduates of vocational education institutions to further building their personal career, to engage into lifelong learning, as well as to adapt to the novelties and to master changes in labour market in the most efficient way. The project is directly linked to implementation of Bruges Communiqué, National education strategy 2013-2022 and European initiative „Small Business Act” provisions on strengthening young people’s entry into the labour market and their career perspectives; promoting their motivation to actively participate in learning activities; as well as boost of small and medium enterprises in international markets and development of staff competencies in order to build their competitiveness. In today’s work environment, ability to learn quickly and efficiently is one of the most important factors determining organisation’s capacity to adjust to changing environment. Learning at workplace means: learning through being proactive, solving real work problems, applying existing knowledge in practice, acting autonomously or in cooperation with colleagues, observing their operations. Employers tend to consider that graduates of vocational education institutions are not well prepared for the labour market needs and lack motivation to improve their qualifications. Shortage of the mentioned competencies may later become a serious obstacle in raising qualification and remaining attractive in labour market. The overall aim of this project is to develop and to pilot model for improving VET graduates’ ability to learn in workplace through international traineeships in SMEs. The project will be implemented from 1st June 2016 to 31st of May 2018. It foresees sending 100 VET graduates employed in LDK companies (positions corresponding to their vocational specialisation) to perform 3-month-long traineeships in enterprises in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Italy and Hungary. While learning at workplaces project participants will consistently improve three groups of competencies: 1) specific competencies necessary for performing work tasks; 2) generic competencies that allow acting efficiently in various work and life environments; 3) personal career management competencies for designing a desired career path. Project realization will contain 8 major activity stages. Theses stages encompass informing potential project participants and performing their selection; defining their traineeship aims; designing traineeship programmes and implementing them in the hosting organisations; assessment and verification of the acquired / improved competencies; as well as other instruments for supervision, progress monitoring and dissemination of project outcomes, forming solid system of interrelated project activities. For effective implementation of the activities, project management group and project steering group will be formed for ensuring quality of outcomes as well as running ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the project. Project dissemination plan foresees spread of information at the association, national and international levels striving to ensure that project activities contribute to formation of single European labour market. Mobile and highly qualified labour force is crucial for strengthening common competitiveness of SMEs in global world. Experience gained by project participants during their traineeships abroad will equip them with knowledge and confidence for initiating positive changes in SMEs. Moreover, it is expected that VET graduates, who will be successfully integrated into labour market, will encounter unemployment problems less often and, as a result, put less burden on national social welfare system.International partner network formed in this project will have a long-term impact on cooperation of companies at regional, sectorial, national and international scope with aim to improve quality of vocational training to bring it closer to labour market needs. The developed, piloted and continuously improved traineeship model will allow regular involvement of new companies as well as sharing good practice related to VET graduates’ learning at workplaces.
