Power of activity
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Apr 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our project: Power of activity We had two EVSes; French girl and Lebanese boy, French girl Nahia was here 12months and Lebanese boy Joe was in Kotka 3 months. They both spend half of their project time in Pyhtää and half Kotka. First half the Nahia was in Pyhtää and Joy in Kotka, in the middle of the project they switched places. Role of the volunteers were to be a member of our youth work teams in Kotka and Pyhtää, and assistant for after school activities in both municipalities. They were involved into planning and directing youth club activities; art and crafts, baking, and play/game sessions and camps. At Pyhtää half of the EVS work was to help teachers during school hours, and half of the work they worked at youth club. This arrangement went naturally as the youth club is in the same building as the school.During school hours EVSes were working mainly with language studies as a teacher’s assistants. Also they did projects with art study groups; photography, painting and drawing. The pupils they worked with were 7 to 16 years old. At Pyhtää the youth club is in the same building as the school is where the EVSes worked. At Kotka there are several youth clubs and they are not in the same locations as the schools. At holiday seasons our youth work department is mainly focusing on to camp work daily workshops at youth houses, which we organize and plan together with the cultural department. Our other volunteer were be part of the theme of planning the camp work and workshops and work at those as an assistant for the leaders. We have lots of activities together with the neighbor municipalities, not only with Kotka and Pyhtää but also the city of Hamina and the municipalities Virolahti and Miehikkälä located east from Kotka till the board of Russia. We had international summer camp. Our volunteer was part of the planing team four our international camp and at camp she works as a workshop leader(artclub). At Pyhtää our aim was to give multicultural experiences to our local youth; possibility to get to know with people from other countries and other cultures, and break their possible doubts about other cultures. Pyhtää is located at countryside; therefore people from other cultures are not involved into daily life of Pyhtää citizen. We believe that we’d also have lot to offer to a young volunteer worker. During the year EVSes participated into events and expositions where they told about EVS project, youth exchange programs, and introduced their home countries through games and posters. The aim was to give more information to local youth about possibilities of international lifestyle, and different programs.
