FINISHED
Youth Centre Metsäkartano hosted a four weeks long group EVS project. The main theme of the project was international education. Volunteers main task was to organise an international event for the local students. Since the year 2007 Metsäkartano has organised an international day, called Poke the Globe! The day was held on the 24th of October 2014 and it gathered together approximately 200 students from the regions of North Savo and North Karelia. The aim of the day is to inform local youth about different international possibilities and encourage them to make initiatives in their local communities. International volunteers were instructing different themed workshops and set up the “Culture Bazar” where volunteers were presenting their cultures for the Finnish youth. During the international day, EVS volunteers instructed games, taught different things about their countries and interacted with the students who were visiting them.
Participants of the group EVS project are also creating the visual look for the event and helping with other practical arrangements. During the group EVS project, volunteers visited also several local schools and instructed “international hours” for the pupils. Volunteers also worked outdoors in the nature, for example cleaning the hiking tracks, fixing the activity equipment etc. Total amount of volunteers was 16. Volunteers were from Israel, Lebanon, Algeria, Belarus, Spain and Greece.
