PLLC - Promoting Lifelong Learning in cancer for medical and allied health professionals across Europe

Through this project, improvements will be made in the treatment of cancer patients throughout Europe. Reports and studies suggest that the outcome of illness for cancer patients varies significantly between doctors, hospitals and countries. These findings have been in evidence for some years but the variations persist. The aim of the project is to promote a more effective system of providing education to answer the needs identified within Europe through activities such as:° identification of areas of greatest educational need across Europe so as to work towards a common standard of training and continuing professional development;° development of a European system of accreditation for multidisciplinary Continuing Medical Education (CME) that will allow doctors and allied health professionals to gain 'Euro credits' that will count towards their national accreditation requirements;creation of a 'needs assessment' network and a database. The results will be disseminated via major European cancer conferences and meetings, articles in medical and allied healthcare journals.
