In Iceland there are about 50 firms operating within the plastic industry, but there is no formal educational framework in plastics and therefore no educational opportunities in the field except for an occasional course for workers in the industry. The aim of this project is to establish a formal educational framework in the field of plastics/fibres at FNV in Iceland under guidance from Den Jydske Haandvækerskole in Denmark and Salpaus Further Education in Finland. The Nordic partners consortium facilitates for efficient transfer of innovation, cost efficiency and mindset for Nordic cooperation in industrial education in a larger scale. The project will be implemented during 15.9.2011 - 13.09.2013 in 6 working packages that are leading to 26 specific outcomes and results, such as background needs analyses of all relevant interest groups, promotion plan for plastics education and industry, educational framework for new curriculum and courses in Iceland, learning materials, teacher training, investment plan of equipment and accreditation of PPE programme in Iceland in the European Qualifications Framework and Ecvet (European Credit Transfer). The consortium consists of Fjölbrautaskóli Nordurlands vestra (Saudarkorkur Comprehensive College) in Iceland, Den Jydske Haandværkerskole in Denmark and Salpaus Further Education in Finland along with Nýsköpunarmiðstöð Íslands (Innovation Centre Iceland) and three ineligible partners who are all industries operating within the plastic sector. The municipality of Skagafjordur is a beneficiary and it also supports and cooperates with the PPE TOI consortium. The Nordic partners consortium facilitates for efficient transfer of innovation, cost efficiency and mindset for Nordic cooperation in industrial education in a larger scale. FNV being the main beneficiary of this project, both foreign partners DJH and SFE will benefit from new cooperation opportunities in Nordic educational network of student & staff exchanges and pedagogical development, and strengthening the regional profile of Norden as competence and innovation intensive area.
