Project: Pilgrims teacher training Methodology & Language for primary teachers.
In groups 5 to 8 English is taught as a second language in accordance with the principles of Early Bird.
We use the method 'Backpack'. These include CLIL projects; other classes (eg music) are taught in English .
A native speaker is associated to our school, Joanna Wendholt .
In 2015-2016 we expand English as a second language to groups 1 to 4. The team members who will attend the course are team members working in groups 1 to 4, or new team members in groups 5 to 8.
The 13 participants will use the course to enhance their skills :
Teaching the 4 skills (listening/reading/writing/speaking)
Creative activities for Young Learners
Classroom management skills
Chants, rhymes and songs + storytelling, drama and music
Using communicative learning activities in Primary teaching contexts
Pronunciation work (through children's songs and rhymes)
Work on grammar and vocabulary
Language for the classroom
Building confidence in teaching in and through English - particularly through drama activities
The contact person, Mandy Lapré , ensures the course application . She has also attended the course and will be able to guide the participants in the preparation :
Participants arrange their own transport transport to Canterbury.
At least 4 weeks before departure the participants write a personal development plan in which they describe their expectations and goals for the course.
After participating in the course, the participants write a report of the activities and reflect on their expectations. They describe the extent to which their personal goals have been achieved.
The school management uses these to monitor their progress.
Participants apply their teaching skills in their English classes . To monitor this , the participants will be observed :
a class consultation done by the native English speaker ( Joanna Damen Wendholt ) and the school's English coordinator (Mandy Lapré ) .
After attending the course, the 13 participating teachers will have the confidence and skills to teach English as a second language . The school will start the implementation of English as a second language in Groups 1 through 4 in 2015-2016. Participation in this course will ultimately help our school to meet the requirements of the Early Bird mark and the national standard vvtoE . We expect to enhance the European dimension in our school and our students will be better prepared for an increasingly internationally oriented world.
