Eating culture in Lithuania is rapidly changing. The Lithuanian cuisine and cafes and restaurants making their way to a variety of European cuisine. But the students of VET schools - future chefs, waiters, barmtenders- acquire only basic skills at school. They lack knowledge about the world cuisine and the features of customer service of different nations. They know about modern cuisine and the world dishes only from TV shows or magazines.Therefore, the project “Southern European cuisine for better training of specialists“ aims to familiarize students with cuisine of Southern European countries; waiters, bartenders will get familiar with the various clients, with a supply of dishes, with features of tourist service, besides they will develop foreign language skills and knowledge.The project also aims to help students, originating from the province and from disadvantaged families, to gain international and intercultural competence, to develop communication skills, learn dynamism and ability to assume responsibility for their own learning outcomes and professional achievements, improve general skills. The project will encourage students' creativity and provide an opportunity to integrate into the EU and Lithuanian labor market.The project will involve 20 students of cooks, waiters, bartenders specialty of Marijampole VET Centre, Birzai Technology and Business Training Center and Vilkija Agricultural School. The project, carried out throughout the year, will include not only the placement period, but also information and dissemination activities in all sending schools to help students to improve professional knowledge, motivation to learn foreign languages, improve learning outcomes. During the placements the students will deepen their professional knowledge about Mediterranean cuisine and seafood, cooking technologies, get acquainted with other cultures, broaden learning horizons, they just acquire better personal features. Development of professional competencies will be particularly helpful to work in a modern kitchen with modern equipment, various types of seafood, fish and learn to cook fussion cuisine dishes, work in high-class restaurants, to work in a team.Students will be trained for a few months before internship in the consortium of schools – they will increase their professional skills, improve their English language, while performing assigned tasks. They will be led by an experienced team of consortium according to a work plan.Results of the project - 20 students of cook, waiter, bartender specialty from the province of Lithuania, acquired new Southern European cooking knowledge and skills that would help young professionals to raise the employability and job prestige and attractiveness. The important result is Integrated lesson of cook and waiter specialty, during which the cooks will prepare dishes of Italia and Malta, waiters will decorate the tables and serve the meals. The students, together with the working group will create the electronic Cooking Recipe Book. It will include students’ internships photos, fragments of impressions and Southern European recipes. This book will become the property of students and they will be able to share and present it to their friends. We hope that this will be the work, that will raise students’ pride of their profession.Impact on the participants and the organization will be very significant, as students will deepen professional, language competences, the organization will strengthen cooperation relations between the administration, teachers, students and their families. The benefit of the project will be stronger skills and knowledge of future cooks, waiters, competitive specialists in the sector, the project will emphasize advantages of the vocational training system.
