The lack of youth participation in social activities is a big problem in today’s Europe. The same happens with people of other generations. In our point of view, it is a huge problem that leads to inactive and dissatisfied society. That is way we as young people want to offer an youth exchange which would raise youth involvement in the society. The project “PEANUT” aims to promote participation in social activities of people from different generations and especially young people using arts and social actions as the main tool (performing for participation).
The objectives of the project:
1) give participants the opportunity to reflect on their participation experience and share organization`s experience on promoting active participation;
2) raise the activity, creativity and communication skills of the participants and find practical tools to implement activities that promote participation;
3) involve local people of different generations from Aluksne in activities organized by project participants.
4 organizations from Latvia, Slovenia, Spain and Greece are cooperating within this project. There will be 14 participants age 18 to 30 and 5 group leaders that are interested in active participation field taking part in the youth exchange.
During the project participants will reflect on their participation experience, explore and experiment with different tools and methods that promotes active participation, like Forum Theatre, Open Space, Artivism, improvisation theatre, “LOESJE” creative writing. In Riga, participants of the project had a chance to visit Kaņepe Cultural Center, see have it has developed throughout the years and how it is working now. As well they got to know more about “Free Riga” and explored abendened buildings, that have been brought back to life thanks to this organization. Also, in Riga, participants carried out one of the Artivism actions “#samelovesamelocks”. Members of project prepared and led creative workshops for local people of Aluksne, during town celebration, executed flash mob action “Log into Reality”, created video about participation, developed creativity and self-expression ability in multicultural environment. Gaining new experience and new motivation from the Youth Exchange, members of Latvian group organized “LOESJE” creative writing workshop and also expedition through the abandoned buildings and territories in Aluksne district, which ended in a small gathering. Likewise, partner organizations have carried out different fallow up activities.
The results of this youth exchange, shows that participants have developed self-awareness, confidence and leadership abilities, while being in intercultural environment, to proceed further, while encouraging active involvement.
