Peace Praxis - Partnerships for non-violent conflict transformation
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Mar 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

International tensions and conflicts form an ongoing concern for Europe and its neighboring regions. As developments in the last years have shown even military confrontations are not off the agenda and reached close to the borders of the European Union. The resulting mistrust and hatred between the conflicting parties are not possible to only be solved on a political level but need to be accompanied by efforts, which directly address civil society representatives and especially young citizens. Looking at the practice of peacebuilding activities, it is however often the case that numerous actions are taking place without a coordination between main actors in the field. There is a lack of exchange in between local actors from the conflict areas but also in between European organizations active in the field. In order to have a significant impact, a sustainable partnership on an organizational level would be a necessary precondition. Taking those aspects into account, the PBA “Peace Praxis – Partnerships for non-violent conflict transformation” therefore wants to bring 32 youth workers and youth leaders from EECA and partner countries together to learn from each other’s experience and build a base for long-term cooperation. The specific objectives of the project are:• To give space for actors from program and EECA partner countries to learn about and commonly reflect on each other’s activities in the field of peacebuilding and non-violent conflict transformation• To get a deeper insight in the work of major German actors in the field of civil society conflict transformation in the EECA region• To create a network of likeminded individuals and organizations for long-lasting cooperation and exchange of best practices• To develop concrete follow-up projects for young people in the thematic field of the PBAParticipants will be experience youth workers and youth leaders who have a background in designing and running youth peacebuilding activities. The activities will include spaces for sharing and analyzing best practices, working on networking structures as well as an open space on follow-up project development. The methodology will be based on the principles and ideals of non-formal education and will give the chance to make best use of the experiences by the participants. The project will result in a strengthened network of actors in program and EECA partner countries in the field of non-violent conflict transformation. On a long-term it wants to contribute to an increased quality and quantity of project in this field and therefore to a reduction or resolution of existing conflicts.
