Our project is titled "PEACE" which is an acronym that stands for "People E-nabeling Actions for Civic Education" and that is targeting a peaceful solution for the current challenges in European society. The name refers to people who are active in their countries and help with their engagement and attitude to strengthen the civic society of Europe. During our project "PEACE" we will have first a jobshadowing where two youth workers will be empowered for the use of e-tools in civic education and secondly we will organize a training course where 24 motivated youth leaders from10 programme countries (Austria, Estonia, Spain, Romania, Poland, Portugal, Turkey, Greece, Slovenia and Italy) will share their best methods for effective civic education. The participants are working in the formal and non-formal educational field to share experiences and enlarge their know-how about the most effective actions to motivate youngsters aged 16 to 25 to take responsibility as citizens and see their important role in society. The 10 days training course will take place in the inspiring location of Seckau/ Styria between the 1st and 11th of August 2015 (if approved by the National Agency.)
In order to prepare a perfect training course a job shadowing will be done in Greece to get know-how about the e-learning platforms of Solidarity Tracks. They are specialists in that field and will prepare the trainers from gain&sustain:europe for their duties.
The main topics and activities during the training course refer to methods on how to "be an active citizen" (in real and virtual world) and how to be a role model for others when it comes to European Values. What does a young person need to get active? We want to inspire the participants by sharing wisdom of famous historic personalities that shaped our vision and different cultural backgrounds and take them as idols. The main purpose of "PEACE" is to have a strong multiplying effect of best practise methods using especially e-tools for the youth work when it comes to civic education, European Values and the promotion of Human Rights for an inclusive, peaceful society.
During the training course, we will discover the key messages of each individual, compare them with those of other historic personalities and filter the common grounds to build messages that can benefit modern society in a multinational and cross-cultural environment. Once these binding elements have been identified, the project partners will look into different options regarding peace education in civic society and prioritise them accordingly. Building on the expertise of the participating youth workers, we will also establish a guide-book with best practise examples for non-formal civic education for peace with the aim of fostering a mutual understanding of a European society that thinks globally and acts locally and that is connected via e-tools.
The central questions to be discussed are: What are best-practice examples for peace/ civic education in the non-formal learning sector? How can civic education for youngsters be incorporated into a holistic development of European society? How can youth workers effectively communicate their experiences made in the training as a way to strengthen the consciousness and timelessness of inspiring messages to their target group (young people between 16 and 25 years old) through non-formal activities and/ or e-tools? We hope that through the ERASMUS+ programme we will not only be able to find answers to these questions but also identify new ways of cross-border cooperation in youth work by knowing how to use the new technologies and social media for non-formal civic education of the youth.
