Tukums Evening and Distance Learning Secondary School is an educational establishment which carries out the programmes for general secondary education and primary education. Its target audience is teenagers, young adults and adults. Since 2010 Tukums Evening and Distance Learning Secondary School offers educational programmes to be acquired in the classroom and as distance learning, including e-learning possibilities using e-learning platform Moodle. Every year a big number of students drop out the school for different reasons not finishing their education. Tukums Evening and Distance Learning Secondary School has set the main tasks for its further development devoted to reducing of early drop outs. In 2015 the improvement of e-learning was started. To carry out the modernisation of e-learning the school needs to train the teachers involved in it. They have already got acquainted with the experience in Latvia so new experience is needed in other countries. There isn’t a big experience in this field in Latvia. Tukums Evening and Distance Learning Secondary School is going to carry school education staff mobility project’’ Activities carried out by Tukums Evening and Distance Learning Secondary School to reduce the number of early drop outs’’ The teachers of Tukums Evening and Distance Learning Secondary School who teach exam subjects needs new ideas and methods to make the study process innovative and interesting for every student in the classroom or using e-learning, to reduce the number of early drop outs. Teachers also need to improve their language skills to be successful participants in international projects and be able to get new experience in other countries. One more reason to be involved in this project is the need to present the school as e-learning school in the school inspection so that the managing staff can make improvements in organizing study process. The experience in Latvia has already been acquired. The aims of the project are: -To reduce the number of early drop outs -To improve the professional skills of educators -To enhance the professional skills and competences of school staff -To ensure the quality of education -To improve the skills of foreign language -To set up an innovative and learner friendly e-learning system using the newest version of Moodle 2.8 Total number of teachers taking part in this mobility will be 12. All the mobilities and activities carried out during this two year project are aimed at reducing the number of early drop outs of students. The target audience of the dissemination of the project results will be: - The directors of the schools situated in Tukums, Jaunpils and Engure municipalities - IT specialists - The subject teachers of the schools situated in Tukums, Jaunpils and Engure municipalities - The organizers of education processes and employees of School Boards By the end of the project three teachers will have developed their IT and e-learning organizing skills, two teachers will have significantly improved their language skills in intensive language courses, but all teachers will have reached a higher level of their English language knowledge. Six teachers will have improved their professional competences of teaching their subject. Six teachers will have acquired new methods and ideas during their job shadowing activities in different schools. 7 teachers and managing staff members will have learned about the activities and methods used by other schools to reduce the number of early drop outs. All 12 participants involved in Professional development will have made clear decisions about the future development of the school in the field of reducing early drop outs. There will be positive impact not only on teachers but on students as well: -The knowledge gained during mobility will help in motivating students of different social and cultural groups .It will help to create a learner friendly environment and reduce the number of teenagers and grown-ups dropping out of school early. - Development of e-learning will support learners in their studies, who have different reasons for not attending school regularly because of their job, family, health, social or other reasons, and motivate them to continue their primary or secondary education. Tukums Evening and Distance Learning Secondary School will ensure the learning environment based on needs of students.
