PROJECT
FINISHED
The project Pedagogical Teacher Exchange with Austria was held from 15th November to 28th of November 2015. It included representatives of 4 European countries. During the first week it took place in Vienna, during the second week the work was performed at the school Handelsakademie in Eisenstadt, Bürgenland.
Our school considers cooperating in such international project as an opportunity to create new relations with the other participants and as an exceptional opportunity for our teacher of German, who participated in the exchange, to get a closer insight into the organizational aspect of the Austrian educational system as well as the atmosphere and the way of working at the chosen school. Job shadowing and the offered possibility to participate in the teaching process was also of utmost importance.
Goals:
1st week:
- to get acquainted to other teachers within the project. In the pedagogical exchange within Austria there were teachers from 4 European countries, namely from Finland, Lithuania, Norway and Slovenia.
- to get a detailed insight into the Austrian educational system and some other institutions on a national level ( Ministry of Education and Women, European Bureau in Vienna, Institute for Education)
-visiting different schools in Vienna (representations of schools and job shadowing, possibility of integration in German lessons)
-representations of novelties and concrete examples of teaching German as the second language (using e-media) .
2nd week
- one-week stay at Handelsakademie in Eisenstadt, Bürgenland
(Job shadowing at chosen classes e. g. language teaching, teaching German and other subjects such as geography, history and German as mother tongue )
-representation of the Slovene educational system to students/teachers interested in the topic
-teaching at the school, various topics (representation of Slovenia, its geographical and ethnical features, historical and cultural outline, language specialties, German words in the Slovenian language…)
- upgrading, refreshing the knowledge of foreign language
- getting to know other colleagues, culture and the environment of the hosting country.
All the above goals were fully achieved within the 14 -day-long project.
The participant had the opportunity to use her knowledge of the foreign language in real-life situations and interact with native speakers which is not just of great importance for a language teacher, but also priceless and most useful as she was able to use her knowledge on the spot, deepen it and later pass on to her students.
Job shadowing at German lessons and other subject was an outstanding opportunity to get an insight into the work of others and to develop critical friendship.
The opportunity to teach in a foreign language at a foreign school was a remarkable experience, a challenge and chance of confirming oneself.
New knowledge and skills were acquired in the field of teaching (language and other subjects) as well as personal growth, making new friends, establishing new co-operations and connecting individuals and institutions.
