Pädagogische Qualitäts-und Innovationsinitiative LSR OÖ, Schulentwicklung durch gezielte Lehrerfortbildung in Methodik des Naturwissenschafts- und Fremdsprachenunterrichts
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: Nov 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Pedagocical quality and innovation initiative LSR OÖ, school development by targeted teacher training courses in methododology in science and foreingn language teachingAfter analysing the knowledge and the competences of school leavers in cooperation with representatives of leading firms in Upper Austria the regional educational authority developed this project. To improve lessons one needs highly qualified teachers. This is why the regional educational authority LSR OÖ has initiated two structured teacher training courses, one in sciences in Germany and one in English in York UK. To enable innovation transfer for problem solving competences in sciences Upper Austrian teachers attend a structured training course on the method of TheoPrax. It is a method, which enables cooperation between schools and businesses, in a especially created TheoPrax subject in AHS and in courses for talented pupils in NMS. In this subject the pupils work on special tasks set by the companies. The role of the teacher changes into being a coach for the pupils, who work more independently and output oriented on problem solving tasks. The pupils gain insight into the requirements companies set and meet representatives of these companies. The second structured teacher training course focuses on language skills and methods teaching English as a foreign language, because the representatives of Upper Austrian businesses identified English ,the ´lingue franca´ in economy, as the main language pupils have to be good at. This teacher training course aims at teachers of secondary vocational school, general secondary schools and primary schools. The teachers will improve their individual language skills, their methodological knowledge, their abilities in using CLIL and will broaden their intercultural understanding. The participating schools, their teachers, come from all Upper Austrian regions, as the consortium aims at a broad distribution of methodological innovation and skills. The participants become obligated to inform their fellow teachers at their schools about the content of the teacher training courses and also to spread their experiences, withing the regional working communities of their subjects. The school are obliged to implement the innovations , TheoPrax and CLIL, at their schools and to support the teachers in doing so. The preparation, practical realisation and implementation of the teacher training courses, focusing on innovation transfer and improved competences in language teaching and quality assurance, is organised by the LSR OÖ Team in cooperation with the two pedagogical universities in Upper Austria. Both measures contribute to a positive school development process in single schools and in the whole of Upper Austria. In future the pupils will gain abilities - better English skills - and competences like problem solving, which are required in the workplace. The teachers will be able to manage their English better in different lesson related situations and they will develop managment skills and their team work competences. The evaluation process takes place in several levels. Firstly by the participants, then the headmasters and school development groups and also the organisation team. Furthermore there is going to be an external evaluation by PH OÖ.
