PROJECT
FINISHED
Oyster project 3 consisted of a two week mobility project to Tarragona, Spain in August/September 2015 hosted by our partner organisation Institut Callipolis.
This project intended to develop participants skills sets, including enhancing vocational competence with pan European techniques and transferable skills .
The project participants consisted of two accompanying staff members and a group of 6 learners aged between 16 and 24, all of which were working towards one of the below government funded apprenticeship programmes listed below (as outlined within the initial application form);
-NVQ level 2 Hairdressing Foundation Apprenticeship Training Programme
-NVQ level 3 Hairdressing, Advanced Apprenticeship Training Programme
The successful participants were selected from a wide geographical area including West Wales, South East Wales and South East England (inclusive of areas of high deprivation as outlined within the initial application).
For the duration of the stay the initial visit planner was worked to. The participants attended workshops held by the host organisation for 3 days of each week which focused on development of the participants industry vocational skills and the additional 2 days per week were spent working in commercial hair salons across the region. This mixture of host workshops and industry based experiences enabled participants to not only learn new skills but also to experience the cultural of Spain and adapt to the different working practices and patterns compared to the UK.
Project aims and objectives
Specific aim: To enhance the learning experience for all participants, enthusing and motivating learners to stretch themselves, realising that the world is their Oyster, whilst supporting the learners journey to visualize their ultimate career aims and develop entrepreneurial skills.
Excepted visit outcomes for participants
1. Demonstrate new technical vocational skills to their peers and their organisation enabling them to diversify the services that can be offered in their workplace, thus increasing productivity through staff being competent in more European hair types and techniques.
2. Improve their communication skills, even where language is a barrier
3.Have more self confidence to diversify their careers outside the 'Norm' of a salon environment and entrepreneurship skills
4.Gain additional qualifications which will include wider keyskills working with others and improving own learning level 1 and three units from the City and Guilds Employability suite of qualifications
5. Disseminate their experiences to others outlining the benefits of mobility visits
6.Have a enhanced CV to increase future job prospects
Where the objectives achieved?
Participants feedback gathered as part of their distance travelled questionnaires, Oyster project evaluations, work diaries and discussions all clearly demonstrate achievement of the objectives set as part of the project and within the participants learning Agreements. For more information on what has been achieved please see appendix 1 and 4.
Longer term benefits will require on-going measurements however we envisage this to consist of the participant becoming more involved in enrichment opportunities due to increased confidence levels. This in turn will continue to enhance participants employability skills and CV's.
