Ouverture scientifique et culturelle pour de jeunes citoyens européens
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

« Achieving a scientific and cultural openness for young European citizens” We both passed a master in one of the European languages (English and Spanish) and, in our classes, we really feel the need to offer our students a window to the world. Twice a week, we swap our pupils to teach sciences and English. This enables us to organize several projects within the school or we can have broad-minded projects using exchanges with other European classes. In our English courses, we have already run some events (breakfasts, cooking…). This year, for the second time, there will be a school trip to Guernsey Island and a meeting with the pupil’s pen friends in their school. In the sciences courses, we sometimes invite specialists to set up workshops with children and we also lead concrete projects inside the school (waste sorting…). We now feel the need to meet and share our projects with teachers from other European countries. We also need to know how things are dealt with in European schools, to share our methods and tools in pedagogy. We both would like to be able in our everyday life at school to support the projects set up by the teacher in charge of each subject. In order to achieve this way of working, we both need to improve and strengthen our level in English and to reassure our methodology in teaching English, to have a better understanding and knowledge of British culture and school system. This would as well imply exchanges with European colleagues. Our main goal is to concretely act on the openness of our pupils towards Europe. We wish that throughout the cultural, linguistic, scientific activities and projects we expose them to, they could reach an idea of a European identity and citizenship. With the exchanges we will organize thanks to e-Twinning, they will find concrete situations to express themselves in English. They will also be able to choose more easily and with a better awareness the second language they want to learn in secondary school because of the door opened to several European countries in primary school. We know that with the projects we will lead, the children will better know how to use computers and will have a better understanding of the risks of the internet. We wish to complete and strengthen the projects we have already started using the experiment we will achieve with the courses in London. We also would like to develop new activities in sciences, languages and civic education: scientific challenges and exchanges using e-Twinning, P.E. courses and theatre workshops in English, school trips to Guernsey or jersey Islands, work with real documents, routines in English in both classes… When subscribing to this European program, we aim at improving the practice of English in our classes. It is also to increase our results at the A1 European level in English. We wish to open our students to the European cultural diversity. And, for us, it is important that in the future, we could create a team of teachers ready to lead European projects within our school.
