Organising innovative teaching for collaboration, creative learning and motivated learners
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

As a rural secondary school in Lincolnshire, UK, we often struggle to offer our students innovative educational learning opportunities. Our students can become unmotivated and lack creativity. Through the educational setup of the 11+ exam and use of grammar schools in our county, students who come to us have already failed at something and this can add to their lack of motivation. Due to our location, students can also be closed off to other cultures. In order to raise their positive outcomes and achievements, our staff must achieve a higher level of competences in innovative teaching. Training will develop their skills in order to stimulate student’s imaginations and develop their creative potential, raising their cultural awareness in the process. Our school will take advantage of the best educational practices across Europe by learning from their educational frameworks. Through this, we will be able to develop a team of innovation advocates who guide staff to raise the attainment of all students, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds. We wish to develop a vision of innovation in our school. In-school training will be organised through benchmarking and implementing the good practices of other countries. We will make advances in the interdisciplinary approach that we have to teaching and learning, to ensure that all students will achieve a qualification in literacy and numeracy. Teachers at our school aspire to raise the motivation of students. Our mobility project will enable them to provide stimulating learning activities and environments in which to thrive. We have a total of six participants attending four training courses. They are committed to improving the lives of their students and will provide a breadth of knowledge and experience in education. They will work alongside a range of colleagues to implement and maximise an action plan of their learning outcomes. The training courses will provide us with the know-how to deliver our strategy for innovative education. This includes training which will gives staff skills for collaborative learning, setting positive learning climates, increasing student motivation, leading educational change, and increasing the level of innovative teaching at our school. The school will gain a European dimension on the best educational practices in order to inform our school improvement. The knowledge gained through international collaboration will inform our pedagogy and all staff and students will gain from the outcomes. Through action research, the learning gained by participants will be implemented in to the school improvement plan, evaluated, and improved through reflection. As a result of the staff mobility project, teachers will become highly trained in order to create a diverse range of learning environments to meet their student’s needs. All students will seek more enjoyment from their learning, and be able to leave our establishment with a qualification in literacy and numeracy.
