FINISHED
Our Centre, SOS Social Centre “Hermann Gmeiner” Sarajevo, has started with new youth program so there will be large number of activities to cover it. It includes educative-creative workshops, psychological workshops, sports tournaments and social games. But, it will not put aside regular activities in other departments of the Centre (Kindergarten and Early Childhood development Centre). Our Centre is visited by children ages 6-13 and youth 13-30 from the SOS Village Sarajevo, the Family Strengthening Project, children from at-risk families in the local community (at social, economic or other level) and children and youth with special needs. Work with younger beneficiaries is mainly based on social games, while work with our older youth populations is based on various creative and educative workshops. Volunteer will spend six months of service in the Centre (from March to August). It ill be very strong experience for both: volunteer and our beneficiaries. Namely, volunteer's roots are from Bosnia but she has never lived in Bosnia. She has grown up in Denmark. By this project, she will get an opportunity to transfer her experience from Denmark to our children and youth (out of which most of them has never been abroad due to some hard economic or social status), while she will be able to be acknowledged about cultural, historical and language heritage of her parents. Volunteer will also have a chance to work with children on increasing tolerance through the anti-discrimination process and organizing and actively participating in different workshops. This work will all be done under the supervision of professionals employed in our Centre. These professionals include Social Workers, Psychologists, Pedagogues, various teachers (Professors of English, German, Art…), Sociologists. As children and young people have already recognized Centre as a collaborative creation, volunteer will have a chance to take part in all this activities, including work (help and organization) in various workshops. Also, she will be our best assistance and they experiences will help us provide better services to all our beneficiaries at the same time providing her space for new experiences acquiring new skills and competences.
