FINISHED
The Technical Institute of the Holy Heart would like to organize an internship of three weeks, both in 2016 as 2017, for the students of the sixth year "Printmedia and Multimedia TSO" in a Berlin partner school. This is not a casual choice. From our preparatory visit it was clear that our partnerschool, given its size, offers many more possibilities than our own school. As the birthplace of the German printing industry and its interesting history Berlin is an ideal operating base for our students. In our school we pay a lot of attention to remembrance education. Our students must not forget the past. With this project we kill two birds with one stone.
The aim is that our students during their stage design and print two tourist brochures about a typical location in Berlin. The brochure are equipped with brief accompanying texts in Dutch, English and German. At the end of each training period we present the brochures.
All pupils should develop an idea for a possible layout of the brochure. In consultation with the German partner, they may also express their design effectively during the internship abroad. They get help from their German fellow students and German teachers. They learn while working with new software programs, other techniques and larger printing presses and all this in a foreign language.
During the preparation in Belgium, participants go looking for information about the location in Berlin. They are supported by their specialist teachers. During the first days of their internship they should collect the tourist brochure photo material. Then they must prepare (prepress), print (press) and finish (postpress) the brochure. They are permanently accompanied by their Belgian specialist teacher but the aim is to work independently as much as possible. At the end of the internship they have to present their final work to a jury of teachers in Berlin. This internship is also part of their integrated test. At the end of the school year they must also defend the result for a Belgian jury.
With this internship, we want to broaden the technical luggage of the pupils to increase their employment opportunities. In Belgium they just go two weeks on stage in a small printing company. These foreign internship offers more possibilities. The stage is also used to visit this fascinating city and some Berlin printing houses. For many pupils in technical secondary education, it is the first time that they stay abroad. This internship will undoubtedly contribute to their personal development.
Also for the accompanying teachers offers this internship without doubt a surplus value. They can exchange experiences with their German colleagues and broaden their skills. In the own school for example they can not work with a composite press and printing in 3D is also new. The German education system is different and that makes it just as fascinating for all parties.
