PROJECT
FINISHED
Internet is the most highly valued and widely used information and communication tool of our age. However, it brings about a various number of dangers if not used properly. Everyday, we come face to face with a number of different online risks. We leave digital footprints with each online action without being aware of it. Thus, in order to be alert about what we should expect from our online activities, all internet users have to have sufficient information about internet safety. Whereas, the young people usually view the notion of internet safety as "a bunch of rules telling them 'never to do something' or trying to scare them into safe behavior while they are only trying to have some good time online. And they are very prone to the dangers that are connected with unsafe use of online devices. This realization has been the kick-off point of this project. Through our project we aim to help 40 young people and 8 group leaders from 4 countries from the South (Spain), North (Germany), East (Turkey) and West (Ireland) of Europe on the path to becoming internet users who benefit and enjoy the ever-present tool of our era while being aware of the safety conditions and the steps they have to take in order to protect themselves and the other young people around them.
Throughout our project period, we will carry out activities in various fields from workshops to online and offline quizzes, surveys to drama and group activities, outdoor activities to experience sharing. All our activities will be based on non-formal education methods and peer learning will be encouraged extensively. The participants, most of whom have different disadvantages and obstacles including internet addiction will gain knowledge and experience on internet safety and their digital footprints during the project main activity that will be held in Regen, Germany in December 2014. The main aim of the project will be raising awareness of initially the project participants and then our target groups on the issue of safe internet.
We aim the project to have a butterfly effect and have sustainable impacts long after it is finished through peer-learning activities and knowledge transfer by the participants and the organizations.
