PROJECT
FINISHED
The aim of the project with the help of informal education methods is to promote tolerance by educating youth from several countries about the basic values of Islam and Christianity. Tasks:
1) To visit historicaly important objects for Christianity and Islam in Israel and Palestine.
2) To seak and discuss about common basic values.
3) To know and understand the meaning of main rituals of both Religions.
4) To make research of characteristic stereotypes about both Religions.
5) To ascertain how the belonging to specific Religion have implications on daily rites and ethics and changes it.
Religion has always been a relevant topic in all societies. Often due to differing religious beliefs people and nations experience a form of social separation. Youths from Latvia and Palestine have decided to develop mutually friendly relationships within the framework of the collaborative project “One sun for everyone” by exploring the cultural similarities and differences between Islam and Christianity.
In accordance with the project youths from Latvia will travel to Palestine to participate in a discussion with the local youth about the presence of religious influences in our daily routines and ethics, to visit and examine sites and buildings of sacred architectural importance to Islam and Christianity (e.g, the Church of the Resurrection, the Al-Aqsa Mosque), and most importantly to shatter any religious-based stereotypes concerning both Islam and Christianity.
Within a period of 8 days youths will get an opportunity to expand their horizon and acquire new skills and knowledge about religions, culture and history of other nations in informal settings by the means of team building techniques, live libraries, group activities and discussions.
This project is aimed to promote a considerate and a tolerant understanding of how religious influences can affect our lives and why some people have chosen a specific religion. During the project tolerance, mutual respect and consideration will be of paramount importance.
The results of the project, i.e. the acquired knowledge, will be accessible to a wider public. Everyone will have the opportunity to follow the activities of the project via social media, published video interviews and other means of communication.
After the project all 28 participants will become as messengers – by sharing with their experience with the community, by promoting the message that all humans are equal despite of religious differences, by acknowledging the differences and similarities between Islam and Christianity thus opening the door for more mutual understanding and respect.
