Once upon a time. Writing through exploring the cultural heritage.
Start date: Feb 1, 2012,
Once upon a time. Writing through exploring the cultural heritage. will encourage the young people to write in their original voice and will increase their self-esteem and personal growth through creative writing. The theme is creative, cultural writing. It will take place in Averøy, Norway. Four countries are involved: Norway, Ireland, Latvia and Spain. The project will start in February 2012 where each group in each country will have a writing course to preparation to the week in Norway. They will be looking at different themes every week. We will cover these themes during a period of 20 weeks. In addition, each national group will have to prepare a presentation where the topic is: “Fairytales and legends from our country”. It may be a power point presentation, a drama, music or simply performing the old text the way they used to be, by being told. Of course it may be a mixture of all this. Cultural heritage will be a focus in our activity in June/July. Each country will write in their own language, but the main language on the exchange will be English. If some of the young people feel more confident writing in their own language then that will be fine but they must read it back to the group in English, we do not want to stop the creative flow of writing and hinder this process because of the lack of English writing, this is not an exam. What this is, is a series of what we call prompts that are there to help the young people and encourage them to write in their creative voice. This is what the theme or prompts are for. Each session will start off with a prompt and a time will be given to write in. when this is completed everyone will read their piece of writing back and will always receive positive feedback. This is extremely important and is the essence of our exchange.
