Koroška galerija likovnih umetnosti (KGLU) was founded in 1957 as a museum of modern and contemporary art. In the mid-sixties started with international exhibitions with engagement contents under the patronage of the United Nations. In the permanent museum collection have special place works by artists, associated with Carinthia and Slovenj Gradec (Berneker, Tisnikar, Borčić, Poggi, Planinc, ...). One of the most important strategic orientation of KGLU are continuous pedagogical and educational programmes. We provide a diverse program, which is dedicated to different audiences. We want to offer to each target group something to make art attractive and creative. Bernekers workshops (Bernekerjeve ustvarjalnice) already have tradition from year 2001. They are named upon the sculptor Franz Berneker, who is important for the development of modern sculpture in Slovenia, and whose works are kept in the gallery's permanent collection. They relate to museum exhibition program VCS Skopje, non-governmental youth organization founded in 2005 by former EVS volunteers will cooperate in project. The main goal of the organization is to give non-formal educational possibilities to the young people, in different fields, to promote the idea of volunteerism and to connect young people without reference to their nationality, religion, political, economical or social status. The project "Discovering Art" will give volunteer the opportunity to upgrade knowledge in the field of contemporary art. Volunteer will acquire the basic knowledge about the museum (permanent collection, contemporary art, working with visitors), help in planning and implementing educational programs, participate in various promotional activities, learn the proper work with archives and digitalisation.We will encourage volunteer to work on own project (own initiative, ideas, ...), we will provide help and technical support.Volunteer will have the opportunity to get involved and learn about different social, linguistic and cultural environment and enrich it with new energy, own knowledge and cultural experiences. By involving the local community he/she will meet new people, especially young people, exchange experiences with them. Acquired friendships can be used even after the volunteer will return home. Volunteer will learn the basic communication in the Slovenian language. Main project objectives are that volunteer acquire basic knowledge about contemporary art, learn about different pedagogical approaches, work with different target groups and make contact with them (social skills), strengthens public speaking and communication skills (communication in Slovenian and foreign languages), express own creativity and initiative. We are looking for an open-minded volunteer with an interest in modern and contemporary art and culture in general. We are looking for someone with personal characteristics like readiness to meet new challenges, willingness to learn and responsibility to work with children and young people. We are not limited with specific age, gender, ethnic or religious affiliation, therefore volunteers of different profiles are welcome. We will present project acquired knowledge and experience to the local community, educational and cultural institutions, particularly children and young people and tried to replicated them in other international projects, that we are active in. We also want to achieve the increased interest of young people for mobility and a greater willingness to engage in EVS.
