NUFRIC - Numerical Based Medium Level Training on Industrial Friction Problems

The NUFRIC project, which derives from university/industry collaboration, will draw on advanced knowledge of numerical methods in engineering to design and test a curriculum at intermediate level (approximately third year of undergraduate study) on the application of numerical methods to industrial friction problems. The developed course will be aimed particularly at students or young professionals interested in continuous training. The project will initially design teaching materials and will pilot these with students and existing employees (engineers). End products will include a textbook, a handbook of examples and a range of additional multi-media materials such as a database of reference materials. The developed documentation, in addition to information bulletins and scientific papers, will be made available via partner websites in national languages (EN, ES, DE & IT). The textbook and handbook will be further made available on paper accompanied by additional materials on CD-Rom. Dissemination of new knowledge is at the core of the project and project documentation will be widely shared across partner networks. An information CD-Rom will be further produced by the project. The project also plans to publish scientific papers and to host a series of national workshops and conferences. University partners expect to adopt the course within their own syllabi with a longer-term aim being to establish a Permanent School and Council in Numerical Methods for Engineering.
