As far as our project “The Modern School Open to New Languages and Cultures” is concerned, we give high priority to enhance the quality of theschool activity. We are going to create a theatre platform which aims at organizing a wide range of extra-curricular classes for children, their parents and other teachers:- theatre workshops in French (“Discovering the beauty of French Literature” and “European Stories and Tales”),- theatre workshops in English (“European Stories and Tales),- cultural activities (“The World Citizen”),- musical activities (“Dancing Europe”),- literature-related activities (“The Authentic Young Children’s Literature”),- French through art (“J’adore la France”).We will also stage theatre plays such as: “Children’s Rights” and “European Stories and Tales”. Furthermore, the sung poetry meetings are going to be organized. Thanks to them, not only children, but also adults will be exposed to a wide variety of songs in different languages. We also focus on organizing sport activities, music and arts and crafts classes, IT classes, all integrating the elements of the English and the French language. As a result, children, parents and teachers will:- broaden their linguistic knowledge,- stimulate their activity as well as creativity,- learn about openness, respect and tolerance towards other cultures and languages. All of the actions are focused on achieving the precise goals, such as: acquiring linguistic, social and cultural competence as well as developing creativity and activity of the teaching staff. There are eight teachers engaged in the project, among whom we can mention language teachers (English and French), two librarians, two early childhood education teachers, an ICT teacher and a day care room teacher. We are going to attain our aims through:- acquiring linguistic competence thanks to attending foreign language courses, - gaining experience and the exchange of good practice by making contact with teachers from other European countries,- acquiring competence to work with children and parents with a different cultural and language background,- acquiring social competence by getting to know and accepting cultural diversity,- stimulating creativity and activity of the teaching staff, students and parents by taking part in a wide range of activities organized by the school (theatre, musical, cultural and language projects as well as international projects based on e-Twinning programme). - improving both the learning and teaching process by implementing the modern methods,- increasing students’ motivation in the area of foreign languages. We plan to systematically evaluate the realization of the project. The particular actions are going to be assessed thanks to the use of quality techniques, such as an individual in-depth interview, tests, surveys and the analysis of documents. The visible outcome of our actions is the enhanced level of teaching and the avoidance of cultural shock, so-called migration loop trap. In fact, it could help counteract educational and social exclusion of children. Furthermore, it will trigger the increase of students’ learning motivation and it will definitely prepare children to be a part of multinational, multicultural and multilingual European society.
