New skills for better life
Start date: Apr 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

It is a Youth exchange project. It is based on a transnational Consortium between six promoters: five - from participating organisation from Programme Countries (Austria, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland) and one - from a Programme Country neighbouring the EU (Turkey). In recent decades, a number of political, economic and social forces have changed the landscape of community, family, and expectations for young people. The major factors negatively affecting the integration of young people in the labour market throughout Europe as well as in the Consortium countries are: high rates of mobility, youth unemployment, greater anonymity in neighbourhoods and in schools, and others. Besides, the above problems quite often lead to discrimination, social pressures, xenophobia and racism. The objectives of the project are as follows:• To create space for dialogue and bring together young people from different backgrounds;• To increase awareness among young people on European citizenship and raise their sense of belonging to Europe;• To motivate participants’ interest in exploring EU cultural heritage;• To stimulate young people to take an active role in their local communities;• To foster personal responsibility. The project will bring together about 60 young people with fewer opportunities (including migrants) and will give them an opportunity to discuss and confront various cultural, societal, and political, youth policy-oriented, entrepreneurship and other themes of mutual interest, discover and become aware of different cultural backgrounds, social realities, linguistic peculiarities, and learn from each other. The specific activities during the exchange visit from partner countries to Austria (receiving country) will include the following: getting-acquainted, on-site workshops to businesses, round-table discussions, seminars, culture exploration activities, and outdoor activities. The Consortium expects that the project will help the participants to acquire some attitudes, competencies, values, and social skills, will foster the feeling of belonging to Europe, will increase individual experience in social and personal development, and will therefore enable them to continue exploring other learning opportunities. As regards the participating organizations, the Consortium expects that they will gain more knowledge of working with young people from “minority” groups, they will improve their knowledge on various aspects of youth policies and youth opportunities in the concerned countries, and will inspire them to work more intensively on inclusion of youth with fewer opportunities in their other future projects. The following longer-term benefits are expected: broadened cultural horizons, improved intercultural communication skills, increased knowledge on cultural and linguistic diversity, and stronger cherishing of common European values, tolerance and respect.
