The New Horizons project addresses the information and counselling needs for the vocational training of persons with a mental disability and further seeks to increase the employability of this target group and to integrate this group into active labour market policies. The project aims to offer a comprehensive approach to the work with mentally disabled persons in upgrading the quality of information, counselling and support services. A package of tools related to practices, models and methods, psychometric testing, self-assessment and vocational behaviour will be developed in order to reform existing services. Particular regard will be paid to the individualised counselling approach, to group counselling within the family environment and to group counselling within peer groups making full use of multi-media tools. The developed support tools will be tested on some 2000 representatives of the target group (those with a mental disorder) and will allow the identification of best practices in the integration of individuals into open or sheltered employment or vocational training. It is further planned to validate these tools through international certification bodies. All tools will be made available in both printed and electronic form.
