Network of Danubian Cities for Economic Co-operation (DONAUHANSE)

DONAUHANSE is a network of cities connected by the River Danube. The project has the aim to foster economic prosperity of its citizens by enhanced co-operation between administrations and the business sectors of the participating cities, by co-operative marketing activities both on the level of the cities and the level of special economic sectors of common interest (e.g. tourism, creative industries, transport and trading), by supporting the urban economies of the participating cities. Focal points of the co-operation are: - Strengthening the Cities as Hubs of "the Stream of Wealth", - Enhancing the Contribution of the Waterway Danube to the development of the cities, - Amalgamating the River with Urban Development. This initial Donauhanse-Project aims primarily at the common definition and establishment of the conceptual and organisational framework, the identification of concrete areas and projects of co-operation. Some of the envisaged results are the joint presentation at the Expo Real - property and industrial location fair and the extension of the Danube River bicycle path. Expected Results: The main result will be a new and sustainable network of Danube cities. Further results will be, among others: - Intensified contact among the city authorities responsible for economic development, tourism and international transport (including ports), - An elaborated marketing strategy and a logo for Danube river tourism, - Several studies on the cities’ economic potentials and strategies, including ports and urban river bank development, - Joint presentation at Expo Real, a trade fair for commercial real estate, and at other exhibitions and fairs, - Integration of additional destinations into the Danube river tourism, - Extension of the Danube river bicycle path and re-launching bicycle tourism from Ulm to Sulina on the Black Sea.
