The media have a great influence on young people, but this potential is not sufficiently realized in terms of encouraging young people to increase participation in social or political activism. Young people are rarely represented in issues dealing with economics, politics, religion, ecology and health, while over-represented in so-called easy topics that are related to sports, fashion, entertainment.Young people in the media are often perceived in a negative way, as uninterested in becoming active citizens in their local communities, and are unevenly present in a variety of subjects in the media. On the other hand, young people rarely create media content or get a chance to talk about their interests and concerns. Usually they are used in political agendas and being tokenized, marketed to and exploited for the profit.Lack of understanding NGO’s and non-profit media as key players in the development of a truly democratic society will have an even greater and destructive effect on new generations of young people. On the other hand the inability to integrate civic education or the introduction of media literacy in school means taking away young people the tools to create and participate in a truly democratic society. Thus, young people need the support and opportunity to develop their critical thinking and healthy expression in the media, through which in the long run we can encourage youth participation in democratic life. O1. Promote critical thinking and education in media fieldIn order to inspire young people to critically observe and react to media and their place in the media we must provide education, space for discussion and creation of youth media content. Media literacy is one of preconditions for active participation in EU life.O2. Create platform through which young people in community can publish their works and chanel their thoughts and ideasEducation for EVS and local youth that will be provided throughout the project and help in media content creation are the first steps in empowering youth for active engagement in their lives and lives of their community.O3. Promote volunteering and Erasmus+ EU values are reflected in Erasmus+ programme through strong belief that all young people need to have equal opportunities to grow and acquire new skills and knowledge through mobility projects. We believe EVS volunteers will be perceived as living examples that every young person can take positive action to change direction in their lives. This positive belief and information need more room in media space. Two young people from Turkey and Armenia will spend a year on EVS experience in Petrinja. They will be engaged in following project activities:.1. Trainings for EVS and local volunteers EVS and local volunteers will take part in non formal education in journalism basics and multimedia.
