My Next Job Exchange was an international youth exchange that took place in Rijeka, Croatia, from 14th to 24th March 2016. During the exchange, 30 young people age from 18-30 coming from 5 different countries: Lithuania, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece and Croatia gathered to face together the challenges that the young people today are facing in the job-market. Through this project we started open discussion of the concepts of work and economic systems the young people were brought up to believe, which may not fit their current situation. The participants discussed topics of youth unemployment, how it is for them to be looking for a job in their countries, do they plan to have the same job during their whole lives, what personal beliefs and patterns are stopping them to find a job, or maybe keeping them at the job they don’t like, and together they started building new solutions for the situations they face. We used as methods experiential learning in the intercultural environment, through activities in the indoor and outdoor, cultural exchange, creativity and role-playing activities, intercultural thematic workshops, job fairs to test their acquired skills, specific employability skills workshops, problem-solving and team-building tasks. The main impact that was done on the participants is that within the group they have started to change their attitudes towards their employment situations and they have started to look for more creative solutions for it. This way, we believe the project has reached a long-lasting goal of empowering the youth to keep discovering new approaches towards creating the life that they want to live.
