Multiculturalism is beautiful!
Multiculturalism is beautiful!
Start date: Feb 1, 2015,
End date: Mar 31, 2016
PROJECT
FINISHED
Globalization is more and more acute thing. It is very important, that also Finnish children and youngsters will grow up to feeling, that our world is common and must be shared by everyone in the world. That is why we want to have volunteers from different countries and make Finns and other nationalities friends. When European volunteers will work in the youth houses, puppet theatre, in sport and cultural activities with refugees, it will give a touch between Finns and other nationalities by natural way.
In our project volunteers will develop their skills, like team work, social work, communication and language skills. These abilities will be very useful for them in the future.
They implement cultural work through puppet theatre performances, arranging cultural and sport clubs for kids, youngsters and especially for refugees. Also they educate local kids and youngsters for internationalism via representation of their countries and EVS-activities in general. One part of this work is working in the youth houses of Pormestarinluoto and Väinölä (in town of Pori). Volunteers arrange campaign for Fair Trade to know, why consumers should use Fair Trade products. Volunteers work in the close co-operation with local refugees and asylum seekers' centre. Volunteers organise English language discussion club and social club for asylum seekers and help their integration to their new living area. These activities are an essential part of our antiracist work. Volunteers write articles about activities with refugees and asylum seekers (culture, sport, international education and especially about EVS-activities and European Youth Program) to be published in the antiracist activity group's Facebook-page.
There will be 3 young volunteers from Spain and France, who are educated, but need to receive work experience in social work and communication work in order to guarantee better chances in their future working career.
Association Nuori Pori 2100 has created a network of responsible persons inside the associations and companions in other organizations, who are co-operating with us. For the implementation of the project there will be used discussions and planning sessions among all the volunteers and activists in the association. For new ideas and questions concerning the project there will be used Facebook, e-mails, et cetera.
Participants will learn lots of things: languages, social work, campaign work, performance skills, teamwork-capabilities, management-capabilities, will learn a lot about other nationalities. Refugees in Pori will receive lots of good support, kids will have lots of international experiences and they will learn many things with volunteers working in puppet theatre and clubs.
For longer term there will be increased feeling of internationalism in Pori; youngsters will start to look for information about the EU and its youth program; refugees will be integrated to local community and European volunteers will have much better knowledge about different cultures and subjects they are interested in, this will lead them to better position in the work market and social life in their home countries.
Because we had more volunteers than our limit of volunteers permitted, we had to keep our Spanish volunteers not coming to our Project before middle of June.
